The Beginning of Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions Co., Ltd.

We are pleased to announce the establishment of Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions Co., Ltd..
On June 10th, the change of the corporate name and the increase of company capital was approved at Shogakukan Production’s shareholders’ meeting and the board meeting. The capital increase will be funded in total by Shueisha and board members form Shueisha　will join Shougakukan-Shueisha Productions’  management. In this light, we took this opportunity to change our corporate name to “Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions Co., Ltd.”. Going forward, by taking our contents business activities to a new level, we hope to accelerate the global strategy of the entire Hitotsubashi Group and increase our competitive edge.
Shogakukan Production was founded in 1967 and marked its 40th anniversary last year.
Since the formation of the company, Shogakukan Production’s main business was the licensing of content from Shogakukan. Starting from the licensing business, Shogakukan Production implemented animation production, TV production, event promotion and mail order service businesses into its organizational structure, and by integrating these businesses, it has developed and grown its contents business.
Outside of Japan, Shogakukan Production has been in business in Asia for about 20 years, primarily working through local agents. In 2000, based on the belief that “business know-how comes by practicing business on-location”, Shogakukan Production established ShoPro USA , to further develop the license business overseas.Undertaking the overseas licensing business directly were the stepping stones to ShoPro’s overseas business development.

In 2005, Shogakukan, Shueisha and Shogakukan Production established US based company, VIZ Media, and by capitalizing on the strengths of each partner, has led to significant results.

We will now make a new start as Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions, and will also begin handling contents produced by Shueisha. However, by drawing on our accumulated know-how and organizational skills, our ultimate goal is to maximize the contents business of the entire Hitotsubashi group.

We strongly believe that the cooperation of these three companies will contribute to the greater development of our world-class comics and animation business.   

With so many attractive contents available to us from two time-honored companies such as Shogakukan and Shueisha, we are extremely excited at the possibilities before us and believe that our hard-work has paid-off and are ready for the new challenges that await us.

Aside from our media business, we also operate an education business. By not forgetting to learn with children, we are confident in deliveringcreate and deliver ShoPro-style edu-tainment.

ShoPro has been in business for more than 40years but the history of Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions has just started. Not limiting our selves to old practices, we will move forward with flexible thinking and a strong organization.
